Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative (MCEC), founded in 1940, is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric distribution utility, delivering reliable power to Columbia, South Carolina members.

Irrigation Repairs
As shown in a recent TikTok video, Heritage is actively managing Mid-Carolina’s irrigation system and from time to time has to make repairs.
Our Columbia team encountered a faulty irrigation valve at their Lexington location that would not shut off. The challenge was compounded by the fact that the valve’s location was unknown because previous modifications to the nearby parking lot had buried parts of the irrigation system under dirt and concrete.
Due to significant electrical interference, wire-locating tools were ineffective, so the team manually excavated the main line to trace the system. After digging more than 30 holes while following the pipes, they finally located the buried valve box and completed the necessary repairs.
It takes skill, experience, and determination to commit to a site for multiple days under challenging conditions, and this project exemplified all three.
This hands-on approach highlights Heritage’s commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring the long-term performance of the irrigation system as they move forward with a complete remodel.
