Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Landscape Maintenance Team

Spring is go-time in the landscape industry—and for our maintenance teams, that means consistent routes, tight schedules, and a relentless focus on safety and quality.

While some of our specialty teams respond to changing site needs, our mowing teams operate on a highly structured route system—servicing properties week after week with precision and efficiency. Here’s what that really looks like.

Early Morning: Preparation and Route Review

The day starts early—before most people are on the road.

Teams meet at the shop to:

  • Review their assigned route on iPads using our scheduling software, Aspire
  • Go over any notes or special requests from supervisors or property managers
  • Check weather conditions that could impact productivity

Then it’s all about readiness:

  • Trucks are pre-loaded and fueled but still inspected for safety
  • Coolers are filled with water and ice
  • Essential supplies are gathered, such as string trimmer line and edger blades

Every minute matters. A smooth start sets the tone for the entire day.

Morning to Early Afternoon: Route-Based Production

Once teams leave the yard, the rhythm kicks in.

This is where maintenance teams are different—they’re not figuring out what to do next; they’re executing a plan.

Each property has a defined scope:

  • Mowing and striping turf areas
  • Edging sidewalks and curbs
  • Trimming around obstacles and beds
  • Blowing off hard surfaces for a clean finish

Because teams visit the same sites weekly, they know:

  • The layout
  • The problem areas
  • The client expectations

That familiarity allows them to move efficiently while maintaining consistent quality across every stop.

A typical day includes multiple properties, back-to-back, with minimal downtime between stops.

Midday: Quick Reset, Not a Long Pause

Lunch isn’t always a long break—it’s often a quick reset between properties.

Teams use the time to:

  • Hydrate and refuel
  • Check equipment performance
  • Adjust pacing if they’re ahead or behind schedule

Then it’s right back into the route.

Afternoon: Staying on Schedule and Finishing Strong

As the day progresses, the focus shifts to execution and consistency.

Teams:

  • Maintain quality even as fatigue sets in
  • Keep a steady pace to complete the full route
  • Communicate any issues they notice on-site

If something stands out—damage, irrigation issues, or plant concerns—it’s flagged for the appropriate specialty team.

End of Day: Reset for Tomorrow

Back at the shop, the day wraps up with preparation for the next one:

  • Equipment is cleaned, fueled, and maintained
  • Trucks are organized for the next route
  • Notes are shared with supervisors

Because tomorrow? It’s a new route—or the same one executed just as well.

Where Specialty Teams Fit In

While mowing teams operate on predictable routes, our specialty teams—flowers, irrigation, pruning, and plant health care—work differently.

They follow schedules, but their days can shift quickly:

  • Responding to irrigation failures
  • Addressing storm damage
  • Handling urgent client requests
  • Completing detailed, skill-specific work

Together, these teams complement each other—balancing consistency with responsiveness.

Why This Matters

That consistent, week-in and week-out maintenance is what keeps properties:

  • Safe and accessible
  • Visually sharp and professional
  • Healthy going into the heat of summer

It may look routine from the outside—but it’s a highly disciplined operation that requires teamwork, efficiency, and attention to detail.

Our maintenance teams are the engine behind it all—delivering results, one property at a time.
