Employee Story: How Our Parkridge Hospital Project Supported One Of Our Own

There’s something to be said about finding a moment of peace when you’re at a hospital.  Whether it’s for your own treatment, to visit a loved one, or to bring a new baby into the world, sometimes you simply need to take a step away and have a quiet moment for yourself.

Heritage’s own Cam Saraco experienced this firsthand when he and his wife welcomed their second son, Myles, on July 27, 2024, at Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Not every facility provides spaces where people can take a moment to breathe, reflect, or pray. In an effort to offer patients and visitors a serene space to decompress, Parkridge Hospital partnered with Heritage to create and maintain a tranquil garden on the hospital grounds.

During the Saracos’ recent stay at Parkridge Hospital, they found peace in the serene green space that Heritage maintains for moments like these. Because their son Myles was born a month early, the family spent a little extra time at the hospital and Cam realized how helpful a greenspace can be.

“Looking back on it, I understand why everyone at Heritage is so passionate about our work,” says Cam Saraco, Maintenance Supervisor at Heritage. “We create spaces where people can pause, reflect and enjoy the outdoors, and it is a privilege to play a role in making a difference in someone’s life.”

The Saraco family moved to South Carolina from New York in April 2022, open to new opportunities and with minimal plans in place. With a background in auto-detailing, Cam discovered Heritage through a recruiter and originally started in the mulch division.

“This isn’t your typical pitchfork and wheelbarrow landscaping work. Our team takes pride in our work because Heritage cares deeply for its employees,” says Cam.

Since then, Cam has been promoted to Maintenance Supervisor, and Parkridge Hospital is one of his many accounts. Heritage manages landscape maintenance on the property, handling everything from mowing turf, pruning of shrubs, weed treatment, and annual flower installation. Cam visits the hospital monthly to complete quality audits, take photos, and address any issues, while also managing other accounts in the Columbia area.

At Heritage, we believe that the spaces we create have a lasting impact on the lives of those who experience them. From providing a peaceful moment at a hospital to maintaining the beauty of everyday landscapes, our work speaks to our commitment to improving communities and enriching lives. We’re proud to be part of these meaningful moments.
